Last year, 97 children and families accessed almost $20,000 in assistance from Hermosa's Bursary Fund to attend camp. Alina CarereFor over 75 years, Camp Hermosa has welcomed hundreds of children each summer to its tranquil setting to build friendships, self-confidence, and a deeper relationship with God. ![]() Alina Carere was one such camper. Alina came to camp as a camper, enjoying the programs and beautiful setting, but it was the friendships and sense of belonging that continued to bring her back. Her connection with Hermosa deepened as she completed the LIT (Leadership in Training) program and began volunteering as a cabin leader. Her willingness to act crazy, laugh, sing and cry endeared her to many, but most importantly to the children she cared so deeply about. In June of 2009, the first Bowl-a-thon for Camp Hermosa was held - an event orchestrated to create a fund for economically disadvantaged children to attend camp. Alina was recognized as the top fund raiser. Alina's achievement was not surprising, given her passion for children and those in need.
In October 2009, Alina lost her life following a tragic car accident. As you bowl or pledge, please remember Alina and know that you are helping to support the children she hoped would have an opportunity to have a camp experience. |
